Review of the OT 2025 in Berlin

19.11.2025

This year’s Oberflächentage (OT25), organised by the Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik e. V. (ZVO), offered a broad overview of current developments in the surface engineering sector. Our colleague attended the event in Berlin and followed the presentations and discussions on energy efficiency, sustainability, and modern process management.

Key topics included:

– approaches to reducing energy consumption in electroplating processes

– tools for CO₂ accounting and scenario-based simulation of process changes

– digital solutions such as process data analytics, digital twins, and KPI-based monitoring

– new cleaning and pre-treatment methods, including laser-based technologies

– workplace safety, temperature monitoring, and fire-prevention measures in production environments

– challenges in training and securing qualified technical staff

The event made clear that, despite a demanding economic environment, the industry remains highly committed to developing practical improvements and forward-looking solutions. Many of the topics addressed reflect questions that currently play a central role in operational surface engineering.

A particularly well-written and comprehensive summary of the key insights was published by the specialist magazine “Galvanotechnik,” which provides an excellent overview of the sessions and expert perspectives.
