ELB at the IMA “Magnesium in Motion” Seminar in Livonia, USA

Magnesium has enormous potential. So what is still holding it back? That question was at the heart of the IMA Magnesium in Motion Seminar, hosted by the International Magnesium Association (IMA) on 12 October 2026 in Livonia, Michigan, at the centre of the North American automotive industry. ELB took part with its own booth and a technical presentation.
The one-day seminar brought together OEMs, tier suppliers, engineers, researchers and material producers. Together they discussed practical ways to expand the use of magnesium in vehicles. The material is lightweight, versatile and full of possibilities. Still, two challenges came up in many conversations: corrosion protection and supply chain resilience.
Our Managing Director Dr. Anna Buling addressed the surface protection side. In her presentation, she showed how ULTRACERAMIC®, an advancement of conventional PEO technology, improves the wear resistance of magnesium components.
Our booth also saw many in-depth conversations. They produced plenty of ideas and promising opportunities for future collaboration in the US.
