ELB Showcases Innovative Magnesium Technology at SME Innovation Day 2026 in Berlin

11.06.2026

As part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy’s (BMWE)  SME Innovation Day in Berlin, ELB, together with the Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) e. V.,  presented their successfully completed research project CAMM that was selected for the exhibition held as part of the event: https://ceranod.de/ceramic-additive-manufactured-magnesium/

The focus was on combining additive manufacturing with modern surface technology. The project integrates laser-based 3D printing of magnesium with ULTRACERAMIC® surface technology, opening up new possibilities for the production of highly complex, durable, and exceptionally lightweight components.

By strategically combining these two technologies, magnesium components can be developed for demanding applications where low weight, high functionality, and reliable performance are critical requirements. At the same time, additive manufacturing enables the creation of complex geometries that are difficult to achieve using conventional manufacturing processes.

The combination of additive manufacturing and innovative surface functionalization unlocks new potential for lightweight construction and helps expand the range of applications for magnesium materials, particularly in the fields of medical technology, aerospace, and mobility.

The SME Innovation Day provided an ideal platform to present the project results to a broad audience of experts from industry, research, and politics and to discuss current developments in the field of innovative lightweight construction solutions.
