Now, for the first time, we’re able to speak publicly about one of these real-world applications. And it’s more than just a technical achievement – it’s a moment we’re proud to share, with deep gratitude.
For many years, our ULTRACERAMIC® surface technology has protected the magnesium piston of the STIHL MS 400 C-M. The part has been in continuous series production for many years, with proven process stability and consistent performance. It’s the world’s first professional chainsaw to feature a die-cast magnesium piston in serial production. Internationally validated, awarded the IMA Award of Excellence 2020, and proven in the field under continuous high-load conditions, this application sets new benchmarks in lightweight power tools.
What makes this project so remarkable?
The performance of the surface speaks for itself: it enables significant weight savings while allowing the piston to operate at speeds of up to 14,000 rpm. That level of acceleration puts this machine in a class of its own.
