10+ Years. One Network. Continuous Progress.
20.01.2026
We are pleased to announce that we will host Symposium F05: Protective Surface
Technologies for Lightweight Metals at MSE 2026, organised by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM).
MSE is one of Europe’s major congresses in materials science and engineering,
bringing together academia and industry for focused technical exchange. The 2026
edition will take place from 29 September to 01 October 2026 in Darmstadt,
Germany, with a hybrid format enabling both on-site and online participation.
Focus of Symposium F05
Symposium F05 addresses current developments in protective and functional surface
technologies for lightweight metals such as aluminium, magnesium, and titanium.
The objective is to connect fundamental research with application-driven innovation
and to foster interdisciplinary dialogue across materials science, surface engineering,
and industrial practice.
Topics include, among others:
- corrosion and wear protection concepts
- anodizing, conversion layers, and plasma-based processes
- functional and multifunctional surface engineering
- durability, recyclability, and sustainability aspects
- industrial case studies and application-oriented developments
With increasing demands on lightweight structures across mobility, aerospace,
energy, and mechanical engineering, advanced surface technologies play a key role
in enabling durability, efficiency, and sustainable performance. Symposium F05 aims
to provide a focused platform to discuss these developments in depth.
Call for Contributions and Participation
We warmly invite researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to submit an
abstract and contribute to the scientific programme. By engaging in this exchange,
participants will help shape a forward-looking discussion on the future of protective
surface technologies for lightweight metals.
In addition, we encourage colleagues and partners from academia and industry to
attend MSE 2026, connect with the international materials community, and explore
current research trends and technological advancements.
Important Dates and Information
- Abstract submission deadline: 20 February 2026
- Early Bird registration: available until 30 April 2026
- Congress dates: 29 September – 01 October 2026
- Location: Darmstadt, Germany & online (hybrid format)
